The Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic is returning in June, 2013. There will be some interesting changes to the format of the event, but the purpose remains the same which is to recognize the High School baseball Seniors one last time and to raise money for charity. Currently in it's 28th year, there is a great volunteer group which has kept the event going through the years. We hope you will join us in Limeport in June, 2013.

March Madness

We here at the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic Blog are looking forward to the March Madness Brackets coming out today.
Even though WVU lost in the first round of the Big East Tournament, we feel that WVU can make a strong run in the Tournament starting this week. They have a good defense but are lacking in offensive shooting, so WVU needs some favorable matchups. But, you never know, Bob Huggins is a great coach and he will have the team ready. Remember the great Final 4 Run last year? We do.

The Phillies opening day is approaching quickly. We hope Chase Utley is ready for opening day.

Be sure to look for the player participation mailings coming to the high school coaches in early April. Be sure to ask your friends, local businesses and other organizations in the community to take an advertisement out in the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic event program.
Please return advertisement requests to American Cancer Society by the first week in May.
Remember event day is June 4th at Limeport Stadium.

Mailings

Player participation packets will be mailed to the coaches on April 4th.
Coaches are requested to hand out their player participation forms as soon as they can.
Players are requested to return the information to the American Cancer Society by the first week in May.
Also, coaches and players are requested to send in the Event Program advertising information by the first week in May.
Please ask around in your community for businesses, friends and other organizations to take out an advertisement in the event program.
Remember, ALL the money raised by the program is donated directly to the American Cancer Society.

Our event day is June 4th.
Remember to bring all your family and friends to Limeport to attend the event.
Two games and an HR Derby are Scheduled.

Have a great baseball season.

Weather Postponement

The snowy and icy weather caused the winter meeting to be canceled this past Wednesday.
This meeting will not be rescheduled.

Thanks for all your help and I will be contacting you all soon regarding the All Star Classic coming up in June.

Coaching informational packets will be mailed out in early April.
Coaches will receive the event information then and we ask for the program advertisement and player participation forms to be handed out soon after that in order to meet the early May turn in date to the American Cancer Society.

Thanks again and everyone be safe.

Winter Planning Meeting

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Winter Planning Meeting at the American Cancer Society office in Bethlehem on February 2, 2011. Meeting time is 330PM.

Be careful with the winter driving and have a great remainder of the winter.
Spring (and spring training) is not too far off.

How about those WVU Mountaineers making a nice return to the Top 25 in Basketball?
Beating G-town, Providence and Purdue in the last two weeks has lifted the Mountaineers hopes that they can have a successful basketball season this year following their trip to the Final Four last season. Lets Go Mountaineers!

Talk to you soon.

Hot Stove

Wow, Cliff Lee!
Could this be the best pitching staff ever?
The Hot Stove league sure did heat up in Philadelphia this week.
Of course, the team needs to win on the field - everyone needs to stay healthy and the offense needs to improve. But, this sure is a great start. I am sure everyone is looking forward to February.
It sure is the Golden Age of Phillies Baseball.

Here are wishes for everyone to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic blog.

Thanks to Keith Groller for allowing us to Link to his blog.

See you all next June 4th for the 26th Annual event. Stay tuned!

Holidays Coming

As you are aware, the Holidays are approaching quickly.
This is a reminder to the Athletic Directors who have not done so yet to please return your coaching information update post cards for the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic.
Our deadline for receiving the post cards is December 31st, so please take care of this as soon as you can.
Committee Members - remember the Winter Planning meeting coming up in February.
We will be sending you a reminder in the mail shortly so you can get this on your calendar.
College basketball season is starting. Duke is looking tough, UNC is looking mediocre so far. WVU is looking strong, maybe not as strong (Final Four participant) as last year, but respectable.
College football is winding down - hopefully the WVU Mountaineers can beat Rutgers this upcoming weekend and USF can knock off UConn. This will mean a Big East Championship for the Mountaineers.
Not too much on the Hot Stove league other than some big name guys trying to get some big time contracts. Don't worry, spring training will be here before you know it.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Talk to you soon.

Getting Colder

As Fall continues and high school football begins to wind down, we would like to remind everyone to remember our event being held on June 4, 2011 at Limeport Stadium. Be sure to place it on your calendar.

Next year's event will be the 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic.

As the hot stove league starts to warm up, we are hoping the Phillies can make some good additions to their lineup for 2011. Let's make it 3 years out of 4 in getting to the World Series.

And, hopefully the WVU Mountaineers can rebound from two straight tough losses.
Next up is Cincinnati next weekend.

Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday and don't eat too much turkey!

Two More to Go

Thanks to the Athletic Directors who already have responded to our requests to update the information for the All Star Classic Directory.
We appreciate your returning the post card with the coach and AD contact information.
If you are an AD and have not yet returned the post card, please do so as soon as possible.

We are hoping that the Phillies can win two more and get to the World Series to face the Rangers.
It would be outstanding to see the Phillies, who many often put down as the first professional franchise to lose 10K games, make it to the Series for the THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON. This has not been done since the 1940's and it is our hope the Phillies accomplish this over the next two days.

The WVU Mountaineers play Syracuse today in Morgantown, WV.
We are hoping the Mountaineers can get another Big East win today and make another jump upward in the polls.

Post Card Returns

This is a reminder to the High School Athletic Directors to please turn in their post cards with the updated AD and coaching information for the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic Directory.
We use this information to communicate with the ADs and Coaches for next year's event being held on June 4, 2011 in Limeport, PA. This will be the 26th year for our event which raises money for the American Cancer Society and recognizes the All Star High School Baseball seniors from the Lehigh Valley.

It was great to see the Phillies win their 4th Straight Division Title.
Now, we are hoping they can take down the Reds and either the Giants or Braves on their way to a 3rd straight World Series appearance.
Let's Go Phillies!

West Virginia University football is at home this week against UNLV. 330pm.
We are hoping that the WVU Mountaineers can return to the Top 25 rankings soon.

And, college basketball is not off. Only about a week until practice starts.

Athletic Director Letters

Athletic Directors,
Information letters for the 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic are being mailed to you this week.
The purpose of these letters is to update the coaching and AD directory for the All Star Classic being held on June 4th, 2011 at Limeport Stadium.
Please return the informational post card to us as soon as possible but no later than 12/31/10. We appreciate your help and prompt attention to this matter.

West Virginia University football travels to Baton Rouge, LA this Saturday for a big game against the Tigers. We here at the All Star Classic Blog are hoping for a huge Mountaineer win. After stumbling a bit against Marshall, WVU played very well against Maryland last week. The Mountaineers are looking to go 4-0.

The Phillies have the magic number down to 4. What an amazing 13 game turnaround since the end of July. We are hoping for another trip for the Phils to the World Series and a 2nd World Championship in 3 years. Go Phillies!
