Hot Stove

Wow, Cliff Lee!
Could this be the best pitching staff ever?
The Hot Stove league sure did heat up in Philadelphia this week.
Of course, the team needs to win on the field - everyone needs to stay healthy and the offense needs to improve. But, this sure is a great start. I am sure everyone is looking forward to February.
It sure is the Golden Age of Phillies Baseball.

Here are wishes for everyone to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic blog.

Thanks to Keith Groller for allowing us to Link to his blog.

See you all next June 4th for the 26th Annual event. Stay tuned!

Holidays Coming

As you are aware, the Holidays are approaching quickly.
This is a reminder to the Athletic Directors who have not done so yet to please return your coaching information update post cards for the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic.
Our deadline for receiving the post cards is December 31st, so please take care of this as soon as you can.
Committee Members - remember the Winter Planning meeting coming up in February.
We will be sending you a reminder in the mail shortly so you can get this on your calendar.
College basketball season is starting. Duke is looking tough, UNC is looking mediocre so far. WVU is looking strong, maybe not as strong (Final Four participant) as last year, but respectable.
College football is winding down - hopefully the WVU Mountaineers can beat Rutgers this upcoming weekend and USF can knock off UConn. This will mean a Big East Championship for the Mountaineers.
Not too much on the Hot Stove league other than some big name guys trying to get some big time contracts. Don't worry, spring training will be here before you know it.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Talk to you soon.

Getting Colder

As Fall continues and high school football begins to wind down, we would like to remind everyone to remember our event being held on June 4, 2011 at Limeport Stadium. Be sure to place it on your calendar.

Next year's event will be the 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic.

As the hot stove league starts to warm up, we are hoping the Phillies can make some good additions to their lineup for 2011. Let's make it 3 years out of 4 in getting to the World Series.

And, hopefully the WVU Mountaineers can rebound from two straight tough losses.
Next up is Cincinnati next weekend.

Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday and don't eat too much turkey!

Two More to Go

Thanks to the Athletic Directors who already have responded to our requests to update the information for the All Star Classic Directory.
We appreciate your returning the post card with the coach and AD contact information.
If you are an AD and have not yet returned the post card, please do so as soon as possible.

We are hoping that the Phillies can win two more and get to the World Series to face the Rangers.
It would be outstanding to see the Phillies, who many often put down as the first professional franchise to lose 10K games, make it to the Series for the THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON. This has not been done since the 1940's and it is our hope the Phillies accomplish this over the next two days.

The WVU Mountaineers play Syracuse today in Morgantown, WV.
We are hoping the Mountaineers can get another Big East win today and make another jump upward in the polls.

Post Card Returns

This is a reminder to the High School Athletic Directors to please turn in their post cards with the updated AD and coaching information for the Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic Directory.
We use this information to communicate with the ADs and Coaches for next year's event being held on June 4, 2011 in Limeport, PA. This will be the 26th year for our event which raises money for the American Cancer Society and recognizes the All Star High School Baseball seniors from the Lehigh Valley.

It was great to see the Phillies win their 4th Straight Division Title.
Now, we are hoping they can take down the Reds and either the Giants or Braves on their way to a 3rd straight World Series appearance.
Let's Go Phillies!

West Virginia University football is at home this week against UNLV. 330pm.
We are hoping that the WVU Mountaineers can return to the Top 25 rankings soon.

And, college basketball is not off. Only about a week until practice starts.

Athletic Director Letters

Athletic Directors,
Information letters for the 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic are being mailed to you this week.
The purpose of these letters is to update the coaching and AD directory for the All Star Classic being held on June 4th, 2011 at Limeport Stadium.
Please return the informational post card to us as soon as possible but no later than 12/31/10. We appreciate your help and prompt attention to this matter.

West Virginia University football travels to Baton Rouge, LA this Saturday for a big game against the Tigers. We here at the All Star Classic Blog are hoping for a huge Mountaineer win. After stumbling a bit against Marshall, WVU played very well against Maryland last week. The Mountaineers are looking to go 4-0.

The Phillies have the magic number down to 4. What an amazing 13 game turnaround since the end of July. We are hoping for another trip for the Phils to the World Series and a 2nd World Championship in 3 years. Go Phillies!

Football Season Starting

So glad to see the football season starting in college tonight.
We are excited to see how the West Virginia Mountaineers do this year.
Most predictions say about 9 - 10 wins.
If so, that would result in a nice bowl game at the end of the year.
Also, high school football is starting in the Valley tomorrow night.
Here in Charlotte, NC, the high schools are getting ready for their third weekend of football.

Next year's Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic, the 26th Year for the event, will be played on June 4th with the rain date on June 5th. As always, the event will be held at beautiful Limeport Stadium.

Let's Go Phillies - let's catch those Braves.
But, the Braves are surely hanging tough.
It will be a very interesting September.

Getting Ready For Fall

As the summer begins to wind down and the fall sports begin to start their practices, we would like to take the chance to thank everyone again for their participation in the All Star Classic.
Post cards will be mailed shortly after school resumes to the Athletic Directors with the request that the coaching information for their schools be updated.
We request the ADs to send this back to us as soon as possible. This information is used to update the coaching directory for each school as we prepare for the 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic next June at Limeport Stadium.

What an incredible comeback by the Phillies last night!
Down by 7 runs in the 8th inning - that team just never gives up.
We are hoping they can catch the Braves and make yet another strong playoff run.

Congratulations to the BML and Tri-County baseball league winners.
Was glad to see Starters Orioles having another strong season this year.

Have a great rest of the summer as we look to the coolness of fall days approaching and the start of football season.

Summer Meeting Update

Thanks to all for attending the summer meeting in early July at Perkins on Hamilton Blvd.
We appreciate everyone's support from the committee in taking time out to attend the summer planning meeting.
There were some good ideas including appointing coaches for each team leading up to next year's event.
Our next post will update the date and team colors for next year's 26th Annual Howard E. Deppe All Star Baseball Classic.

In the meantime, we are hoping that the Phillies can come back from their 5 game deficit in the standings and make another run at the World Series.
Certainly if the Phillies can make the World Series for the third year in a row, they would have to be considered one of the top teams of all time.

Finally, a special thanks to Keith Groller for allowing our event to be linked to his Morning Call blog. We really appreciate your help Keith.
I especially enjoyed reading Keith's article this morning regarding the Blue Mountain League and the player who was nearing 1,000 hits. His attitude and dedication to the game of baseball in the Lehigh Valley surely are commendable.

Have a great remainder of the summer and Go Phillies!

We will have future updates on next year's event soon.
